Australian International Counter Slavery Alliance

Freedom from slavery is the birth right of every person

We exist to scale and amplify Australia’s efforts to constrain the impact of slavery in our region through facilitating partnership between civil society, government, business and international survivor leaders.

Why we exist

50

Million

People are trapped in forced labour, trafficking, and exploitation – more than ever before and it’s growing.

Over

50%

Of all victims are in the Asia-Pacific. Yet has the lowest detection and conviction rates globally.

17.4

Billion USD

Products at risk of being made with forced labour are imported to Australia annually

Why now

Many Australians would be shocked to know that modern slavery – including forced labour and human trafficking – continues to grow unchecked in our region.

Despite the growing problem, resources to counter human trafficking and modern slavery have collapsed in Asia-Pacific. The withdrawal of USDAID is a major setback that weakened counter-trafficking efforts and leaves the door open to an escalation in exploitation. Australia must do more.

Combating the growing problem of modern slavery requires a new integrated approach involving civil society, government, business and international survivor leaders.

Slavery is not too big to stop – it’s only too big to ignore.

Help end slavery in our region.
